Evilard sits on the Jura slope right above Biel, only about four kilometres from the centre. The funicular gets you down into town in minutes, and shortly after you're at GYAN on Zentralstrasse 22.

Evilard: living on the slope, living with the city

Evilard, Leubringen in German, is a bilingual municipality on the Jura slope right above Biel. Magglingen, a little higher up the mountain, belongs to it as well. From many spots in the village you look out over the city rooftops to Lake Biel and, on clear days, all the way to the Alps. Yet Evilard is so close to Biel that much of everyday life happens down below: work, school, shopping and, of course, getting your hair cut.

The funicular as your route to a haircut

For more than a hundred years a funicular has linked the village with Biel. The ride down takes only a few minutes. At the bottom you can walk through town or hop on a bus to the station, and from there Zentralstrasse 22 is a few minutes on foot. The upside: your car stays at home and you don't have to hunt for a parking space in the centre.

If you'd rather drive, the winding road takes you down the slope straight into central Biel. Allow about ten minutes for the roughly four kilometres, a bit more depending on city traffic. In the centre you can use a public car park or public parking spaces.

An appointment that fits a commuter's day

If you live in Evilard and work in Biel, you head down almost every day anyway. A men's haircut takes about 20 minutes here and slots easily in before or after work: Monday to Wednesday we're open until 19:00, Thursday and Friday even until 20:00. Want more than a fresh cut, like knowing how to recreate it yourself in the morning? Go for the GYAN Signature Cut, with styling plus tips on which product to use and how.

On Saturdays we open at 8:30. Handy if you want to spend the morning in town and be back up the hill by the afternoon.

Bilingual online, calm in the chair

In a bilingual community it helps when booking keeps up: our website and online booking are available in German, French and English. You book online and get instant confirmation, so you can time your funicular ride around it. Dropping in works too, as walk-ins are welcome during opening hours.

Inside the salon you'll find brown leather chairs and a red Persian carpet on the wall. Pay in cash, by card or with TWINT. Live further up, close to the sports school? Then our page for Magglingen is the one for you.
