From one watch town to another

Grenchen, Granges in French, lies in the canton of Solothurn at the foot of the Jura, with the Grenchenberg behind it and the regional airfield out on the plain towards the Aare. Like Biel, Grenchen has long been tied to the watch industry, and plenty of people commute between the two towns. At around 16 kilometres, Grenchen is one of the furthest places we have a page for, so the trip to Biel should be worth your while.

Grenchen Nord or Grenchen Süd?

Grenchen has two stations, and both get you straight to Biel. Grenchen Nord is on the line that comes out of the Jura through the Grenchenberg tunnel, and Grenchen Süd is on the Jura foot line between Solothurn and Biel. Which one you use just depends on which part of town you live in. Get off at Biel station and it's a few minutes' walk to Zentralstrasse 22.

By car, the A5 links Grenchen and Biel, or you can take the main road through Lengnau and Pieterlen. Allow a generous 25 minutes and park in one of the public car parks in central Biel.

Beard and shave while you're here

When the journey is a bit longer, a quick tidy-up isn't really enough. Beards are a big part of what we do at GYAN. The beard trim gets length and shape back in order, with the lines finished using the razor. The hot towel shave is a traditional wet shave with hot towel, lather and aftercare, about 20 minutes for CHF 28.

For your hair, go for the GYAN Signature Cut: a haircut plus styling and practical tips so you can recreate the look yourself. That saves you some frustration in front of the mirror between visits to Biel. If you want the lot, the GYAN Premium package bundles haircut, beard, wash and styling.
